United watching me, claims Brazil star
Roberto Carlos has admitted he would not ‘‘put up any obstacles’’ to prospective talks between Real Madrid and Manchester United regarding a bank-busting move to Old Trafford.
The Brazilian defender, currently preparing for his country’s opening World Cup encounter against Turkey on Monday, claimed Sir Alex Ferguson had already spoken to him about a possible move to United.
He said: ‘‘It is true that United want me. But at the moment that is not important.
‘‘I have a contract and I am happy in the city and at Real Madrid. I do not know if the clubs are talking.
‘‘If Real Madrid and Manchester want to, they can sit down to speak about a transfer that could happen. I am not going to put up any obstacles.’’
Reports have suggested that the 29-year-old, who starred in Madrid’s Champions League final success earlier this month, could be valued at around £38m (€60m).
Carlos added: ‘‘When they come to an agreement, I will join in. Manchester United have been making inquiries about me for two years. Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken to me on occasions and I am aware that I am a player he likes.’’
