Danny Murphy ruled out of England squad

Liverpool midfiedler Danny Murphy has been ruled out of England’s World Cup squad after a scan revealed a broken bone in his left foot.

Murphy picked up the injury after landing awkwardly during training in Japan on Wednesday.

England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is expected to call Trevor Sinclair into the squad as a replacement.

Three other England midfielders, David Beckham, Nicky Butt and Kieron Dyer, are also nursing injuries, but are expected to recover before the World Cup begins next weekend.
