Carsley sends warning to gunners

EVERTON new-boy Lee Carsley has sent out a ray of hope to Manchester United as they chase a fourth successive Premiership title.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side must beat Arsenal and Charlton in their last two games and hope that Everton can pick up a point at Highbury.

The Gunners enjoyed a 4-0 win over Everton to clinch the 1997/98 title on the final day of the season.

But Carsley has warned them not to expect such an easy ride this time around if they fail to clinch the Double by getting a point at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

He told Sky Sports News: ‘‘We definitely won’t be rolling over for Arsenal. If they need a result against us, we’ll still have a point to prove to ourselves.

‘‘Since David Moyes has come in we’ve suddenly got the results to take away the pressure of being at the bottom of the league.

‘‘Next season is going to be a massive season for us, to see which way we are going to go.’’

That view is also backed up by Colin Murdock, who played under Moyes during his time at Preston.

Murdock said: ‘‘David hates losing, at anything, he won’t like the idea from people that Everton will just roll over or be cannon fodder at Highbury.

‘‘He worked hard with us on backs-to-the-wall defending, last-ditch stuff because he felt it was important to be able to do that, and I’m sure he’ll be impressing that on Everton.

‘‘He’ll hate the thought that people may think that his Everton will capitulate. The idea of being the underdog will inspire him and he’ll get that across to his team.’’
