Ten Scottish clubs announce intention to quit

Ten Scottish Premier League clubs outside the Old Firm announce intention to quit SPL with two seasons’ notice.

The decision comes after the collapse of SPL TV last week, when Celtic and Rangers vetoed the proposed new pay-per-view television channel, and leaves Scottish football in chaos.

The remaining 10 clubs - Aberdeen, Livingston, Hearts, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline, Dundee, Dundee United, Hibernian, Motherwell and St Johnstone - were angered by the decision and have now proposed to resign from the SPL with two seasons' notice.

The move leaves Celtic and Rangers marooned on their own. Although the Glasgow giants have been linked with moves to join the Phoenix League, the Premiership or an Atlantic League, they have no other league to compete in yet.

"The clubs require to take control of their destiny," said Hearts chairman Chris Robinson.

The new decision was taken at a conference at Hampden Park involving all 12 of the SPL's current members.
