Nationwide League: Wolves make one change for Birmingham clash

Wolves made one change as they sought to regain the Division One lead which they had surrendered on goal difference after Manchester City’s win over Bradford last night.

Keith Andrews took a knock in the 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest which ended Wolves’ run of seven consecutive wins and dropped to the bench to make way for returning midfielder Alex Rae.

Birmingham’s midweek defeat to Manchester City had paved the way for Kevin Keegan’s men to march back to top spot and Blues boss Steve Bruce knew the importance of victory in this midlands derby today.

The 2-1 reverse to City was their second consecutive defeat and left them five points away from the play-off zone.

Stan Lazaridis failed a late fitness test on a hamstring injury and Steve Vickers was ruled out with a calf strain.

But Darren Purse was able to line-up in defence as his two-match suspension for accumulated bookings is yet to kick in.

Damien Johnson, the Blues new £150,000 signing from Blackburn, started on the bench for the midday kick-off in cold and blustery conditions at St Andrews.
