Premiership: Schmeichel eyes Old Trafford return

Aston Villa goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel hopes to return to action against his former club Manchester United in tomorrow’s noon showdown at Old Trafford.

The former Danish international, who enjoys legendary status among the United fans, has missed the last three games with a shoulder injury

But he is back in training and on course to return into the side at the expense of Finnish international Peter Enckleman.

Central defender Olof Mellberg has won his fitness battle. Mellberg missed Sweden’s clash with Greece last week with a groin strain, but has responded well to treatment.

However, Turkish international Alpay will miss his 14th successive game with an ankle injury.
