Derry added to their League Cup win over Bohemians to inflict a damaging dent in Rovers' title ambitions.

Liam Coyle fired Derry in front from a 40th minute penalty. Rovers defender Pat Scully handled a Gareth McGlynn ball inside the area and Coyle sent keeper Tony O'Dowd the wrong way from the spot.

Eamonn Doherty stretched Derry's lead a minute into the second half when he headed home a Darren McCready's cross.

The third goal came on 69 minutes when teenage midfielder McGlynn scored with a delightful 25 yard chip.
