Soccer: We've learned from FA Cup fright, says Davis

Sean Davis has urged his team-mates to bury their chances in the third round replay with Wycombe Wanderers at Craven Cottage.

Steve Marlet headed home in the 87th minute at Adams Park to salvage a 2-2 draw and prevent last season's giantkillers adding another name to their list of cup conquests.

On Saturday, Lawrie Sanchez's men were held 0-0 at Division Two's third-bottom side Wrexham - but Davis knows the Chairboys love the big stage.

Davis said: "I was on the bench last Tuesday when Wycombe scored their second and thought 'here we go, we could be going out here'. It wasn't really a shock because they did so well last season in the Cup.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game. Their spirit came through and they were unlucky not to win - but I thought our spirit was also good to come back for Steve (Marlet) to get the goal at the end.

"We know Wycombe will have good spirit again, but now we're at home, the crowd will be behind us and it's a bigger pitch. We should be able to keep the ball better and create a lot of chances.

"We need to keep the ball better and try and punish them if we do get a chance. We've found in the Premiership that teams do take chances - and we've been punished a lot this season.

"Everyone in the team needs to help the strikers out and score more goals - as that's been our big problem. The gaffer's always moaning that we hardly ever score a header from a cross or corner."

Marlet has urged his dressing-room colleagues to learn from their shock at Adams Park and secure a fourth-round date with Grimsby or York.

Former Lyon star Marlet, now nearing full fitness after a two-month lay-off with a compressed knee fracture, said: "We have the advantage of playing at home and will try to reach the next stage.

"We're confident but also wary - because if the first game had finished three minutes earlier, we would have lost.

"We know Wycombe are a very good team. It was important for us not to lose against them as they're in the Second Division.

"It was good for my confidence to score against them - and I was happy as there were only three minutes left and we had to score to get the replay."
