Aston Villa manager John Gregory is preparing to make major changes to his side for Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie with in-form Manchester United at Villa Park.

Gregory expects to have players available who did not figure against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on New Year’s Day.

Welsh international right-back Mark Delaney and Moroccan international midfielder Mustapha Hadji have been out long-term with knee problems.

Colombian international Juan Pablo Angel missed the 1-1 draw at Sunderland with a groin strain and Gregory left midfielders Paul Merson and George Boateng on the bench against Sunderland because of injuries.

The only two players Gregory cannot include in his plans are Turkish central defender Alpay and Croatian international striker Bosko Balaban.

Alpay has just returned to training after an ankle injury while Balaban is sidelined by an ankle problem.

Team (from): Schmeichel, Delaney, Mellberg, Staunton, Wright, Merson, Boateng, Hendrie, Kachloul, Angel, Vassell, Dublin, Hadji, Samuel, Barry, Stone, Ginola, Enckelman.
