Soccer: Knighthood for Robson inevitable - Magpies chief

Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has claimed a knighthood for boss Bobby Robson is inevitable.

The 68-year-old former England supremo was hotly tipped to become Sir Bobby in Sunday’s New Year’s Honours List in recognition of his services to football after over half a century in the game.

Shepherd admitted he was disappointed that no honour was forthcoming on this occasion, but claimed Robson would not be waiting much longer.

‘‘It’ll come along shortly,’’ Shepherd said. ‘‘It would be for world football, not just the UK.’’
