Eircom League: Carter the hero of Galway fightback

Second bottom Galway earned only their second win in seven games to inflict further misery on managerless Longford who finished with ten men.

Fergal Coleman gave Town the lead on 20 minutes when powerfully heading home Stuart Holt's free kick.

But Galway battled back to level on 49 minutes when Alan Murphy headed in a Mike Quirke cross.

Fran Carter then snatched the winner on 69 minutes when getting the final touch after Mark Herrick got in a goal-bound header to Murphy's free kick.

Town were then reduced to ten men on 73 minutes when midfielder Alan Reynolds was sent off for kicking out at Murphy.
