Premiership: Ince talks set for New Year

Steve McClaren says Paul Ince's contract talks will start in the New Year.

There had been rumours Ince would leave Middlesbrough and return to Italy to see out his career.

Instead, the Boro boss has insisted Ince is a key part of his plans for the club.

McClaren said: "Paul Ince is a key player for Middlesbrough Football Club.

"He's done a fantastic job for us and we'll sit down in the new year to discuss his future."

Ince had already told the club's official website he would like to stay at The Riverside beyond the end of his current deal.

He said: "As regards the contract situation, I've had three great years here and we'll have to see if something comes up that I like.

"I can see no reason why I shouldn't finish my career here at Middlesbrough, if everything is right."
