Premiership: Blackburn set for Milosevic deal

Blackburn hope to seal a deal with Parma for ex-Aston Villa striker Savo Milosevic after the weekend.

Blackburn had agreed to sign the Yugoslav international on loan with a view to a permanent move but the transfer was put on hold following Tuesday’s sacking of Parma coach Daniel Passarella.

Parma have appointed former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi as his replacement and Rovers boss Graeme Souness understands this will give the green light to the deal.

‘‘We were very close to doing a deal last week with Parma, initially on loan with an option to buy,’’ said Souness.

‘‘It was all going along nicely and then they binned their coach Daniel Passarella and as we would say in Scotland, that put the ball back on the slate, so we’re back to square one.

‘‘My understanding of the situation is they are going to appoint a coach from within until the end of the season and they will be making a decision over the weekend whether Savo Milosevic could be available.

‘‘We’ll see what happens over the weekend but we’re also doing other things at this time.’’

Souness is desperate to sign a striker to boost his side’s flagging fire-power, especially now that top scorer Matt Jansen is out with an ankle injury.

However, Jansen’s injury is not as bad as first feared and Souness claims he could be back for the St Stephen's Day game against Sunderland at Ewood Park.
