Beckham is still embroiled in contract talks with Manchester United and Figo has urged his club to step in should the England captain become available.

Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes claims he is to blame for his current poor form and not the new tactics of manager Alex Ferguson.

The England international has struggled to adapt to a new role in the Old Trafford side and was fined a week’s wages after refusing to play in a Worthington Cup tie.
