Premiership: Thompson wishes Westerveld well
Phil Thompson says he is pleased Sander Westerveld is likely to be given the chance to kick-start his career.
Liverpool's former first choice goalkeeper is in talks with Spanish outfit Real Sociedad after being frozen out of Liverpool's plans.
The two clubs have agreed a fee, and it just remains for the Dutchman to finalise personal terms.
Assistant boss Thompson told the club's official website: "It's looking positive for Sander and I'm pleased for him as it will get his career going again."
Westerveld was dropped after Liverpool lost to Bolton, and was replaced by Jerzy Dudek.
Thompson added: "He has to think of his international future and needs to be playing again."
