CONI's medical sporting federation revealed that the second test undertaken by Lazio's Dutch international tested positive for nandrolone.

A CONI statement said: "The Rome laboratory has confirmed in the counter-analysis the presence of the substance nandrolone in Jacob Stam that reaffirms the first test result done on the October 13, 2001."

The former Manchester United player initially tested positive for nandrolone after Lazio's match against Atalanta on October 13.

He could receive a lengthy ban, having already been suspended pending Friday's results.

Stam admitted on Thursday that he expected another positive result, although insisted he had not taken any banned substance.
