Soccer: Strike threat 'over'

The different sides in the dispute over television money have called a news conference where it is expected to be announced that the players' strike has been averted.

Although no final deal has been publicised, it is believed an announcement that a general settlement has been achieved will be made at the conference.

The conference is taking place at the Hilton Hotel, Manchester Airport.

No figures are known and although the Professional Footballers' Association first announced that the dispute had been resolved, it is understood the final details of the agreement still have to be rubber-stamped.
