Premiership: Quinn linked with Preston move
Newcastle wing-back Wayne Quinn is being linked with a move to First Division Preston after failing to force his way into Bobby Robson’s plans.
The 24-year-old former Sheffield United player was in the United reserve side which beat Aston Villa 6-1 at Kingston Park last night as North End boss David Moyes looked on.
He lasted just 14 minutes before leaving the pitch with a thigh strain, but was later seen speaking to Moyes to spark speculation that he could be a target.
Quinn arrived at St James’ Park in January as Bobby Robson invested £800,000 in his left foot in the searched for balance in his side.
But Frenchman Laurent Robert and former Bolton defender Robbie Elliott have since been recruited, and with 20-year-old Olivier Bernard having emerged as a genuine contender this season, his chances have been severely limited.
Meanwhile, another face in the crowd last night set tongues wagging.
David Geddis, who played for Robson at Ipswich, sat alongside the 68-year-old at the game, giving rise to rumours that he could be set to rejoin his former boss.
Robson lost his assistant Mick Wadsworth to Southampton at the start of the season and is yet to replace him, although he has been delighted at the job done by coach John Carver during the intervening period.
Geddis, 43, has been out of work since he was included in Steve McClaren’s Middlesbrough clear-out, but could now be poised to join Robson, Carver and the rest of the Magpies coaching staff.
