Millwall winger Steven Reid faces a race against time to be fit for the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup play-off.

Mick McCarthy’s side face Iran in a two-legged tie for the chance to travel to the World Cup finals in Japan and Korea.

But Reid has been suffering from a hamstring injury and is rated doubtful for Saturday’s first leg in Dublin.

Reid’s club manager Mark McGhee said: ‘‘He’s touch and go at the moment.

‘‘He’s been carrying the injury for a while, and we won’t know until later in the week if he’s okay to play.

‘‘He’s been fine about it but obviously he is keen to play.’’
