Soccer: Jones ready to make footballing return

Former Wales captain Vinnie Jones is set to return to football - with Third Division strugglers Carlisle, who are managed by former Bohemians boss Roddy Collins.

The ex-Wimbledon hardman-turned-actor, a close friend of the Cumbrians boss, has been persuaded to make a guest appearance for Carlisle in their friendly against Shelbourne, with a view to a permanent move.

Collins told the club's official website: "Vinnie has agreed to play next week and we will assess his fitness and see how he feels about signing for us for the rest of the season.

"I spoke to him this morning and he is certainly up for next week's game - then we'll take it from there."

Jones joined The Dons from Wealdstone in 1986, leaving to join Leeds in 1989. After playing for Sheffield United and Chelsea, he returned to Wimbledon in 1992. He left again in 1998 to join QPR before retiring from the game to take up acting.

Best known for his gangster role in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Jones has also starred in Snatch and Gone in 60 Seconds.
