Premiership: Seaman suffers further setback

David Seaman's future with Arsenal and England is under threat again after he pulled out of training.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper has missed Arsenal's last seven games with a shoulder injury.

And his hopes of returning in Monday night's Worthington Cup tie against Manchester United have been dashed by a new setback.

Manager Arsene Wenger said: "He started training last week but we have had to stop him again. The shoulder is still a problem and it may be another week yet before he can start again."

Seaman therefore has no chance of facing Sweden in the friendly next Saturday at Old Trafford and will not be in the squad which international boss Sven-Goran Eriksson names on Sunday.

But Wenger has told Erikkson that centre-back Sol Campbell, struggling with hamstring problems, will be available for England duty - even though the former Tottenham captain is likely to miss Sunday's clash with Charlton.

"His hamstring is tight rather than strained but if he doesn't play against Charlton it is still possible for him to play for England next week," said Wenger.

"It is a pity that he felt it again against Schalke in the Champions League on Tuesday because with every game he is getting nearer to his target of all-round peak fitness.

"Hopefully the latest problem will not turn out to be too serious. He came off early against Schalke more as a precaution than anything else."
