Barthez doubt for Australia trip
Fabien Barthez could miss France's friendly against Australia next month - and jeopardise his international career.
Barthez will sit out Manchester United's Champions League game against Lille with an ear infection.
And Sir Alex Ferguson claims he is doubtful for the game in Melbourne in 10 days' time.
France coach Roger Lemerre is threatening to axe any player who misses the game, even if they are injured.
"It would be sad if medical certificates arrived," said Lemerre. "That would mean to me that there are players who do not want to play for their country."
Ferguson claims his goalkeeper, who has remained in Manchester, wants to play in the controversial friendly, but is genuinely injured.
"He's going to see a specialist tomorrow and the doctor thought there was a problem flying," said the United manager.
"I can understand his (Lemerre's) reasons because he wants to take his strongest team to Australia and I think he will get that more or less, but injuries are injuries.
"Fabien wants to go to Australia. I don't think that's a problem, but at this moment in time he's doubtful."
