Premiership: Todd disappointed not to take points

Derby boss Colin Todd felt his side could have snatched all three points after their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s 10th of the season earned a point for Chelsea after Fabrizio Ravanelli’s first-half effort had put struggling County ahead.

The game continued to ebb and flow throughout with both sides squandering chances to win the game.

And Todd was disappointed his side had not converted one of their share of the opportunities.

He said: ‘‘Overall we are disappointed we haven’t taken three points out of the game.

‘‘But we’ve contributed to an excellent game. As a manager of a side that committed themselves and played good football I thought we had the better chances - but we needed the second goal.

‘‘We had a game plan, we stuck to it in first half but switched to 4-4-2 for the second to counter them.’’

Todd praised the contribution of Italian Ravanelli, who looked at his lively best all afternoon and could have grabbed a late winner.

Todd added: ‘‘Fab could have had a hat-trick. He has a lot of respect for this football club, and whatever problems he had at Middlesbrough he’s been a model professional at this club.

‘‘I thought we could have won the game. We’re all disappointed in the dressing room because it’s two points dropped.’’

Mark Bosnich again shone in the Blues net and was responsible for denying the hosts on several occasions in a frantic second half.

And the Australian, who recently voiced his frustration at his lack of opportunities since moving to Stamford Bridge from Manchester United, insisted he would get behind the team in whatever role he was asked to take.

He said: ‘‘There’s not a footballer in the world who is not disappointed when left out. It’s good to have competition for places.

‘‘It’s up to the manager (if he keeps his place). When you get asked to play you do your best and if you’re on the bench you get behind the lads.

‘‘Today we showed a lot of character and had a lot of chances and if we keep playing like that we’ll be alright.

‘‘It was just a bit disappointing that we couldn’t come away with three points.’’
