World Cup: Iran move closer to showdown with Ireland

Iran have won the first leg of their Asian Confederation World Cup play-off against the United Arab Emirates after recording a 1-0 victory in Tehran this afternoon.

The 43rd minute strike was enough to give Iran a one-goal lead heading into the second leg in Abu Dhabi next week.

The winner of the Asian play-off will go on to face Ireland in the play-offs for the World Cup finals next month.
