Premiership: Wenger hails 'outstanding' Gunners
Arsenal took their away record this season to 13 points from a possible 15 as they coasted to a 2-0 victory at Southampton.
Robert Pires' early goal and Thierry Henry's deflected effort secured victory for Arsenal but the margin should have been much bigger, especially after Chris Marsden was sent off for his second booking after 58 minutes.
"It was an outstanding team performance and we were always in control but we were not clinical enough in front of goal," said Gunners manager Arsene Wenger after a host of missed chances.
He stressed that he was not specifically referring to Henry, who missed an open goal from close range well before his deflected strike finally put Arsenal 2-0 up with 16 minutes left.
"Maybe he could have controlled the ball first but he reacted well and scored later on," added Wenger.
"Looking at the age of that team, that performance was a very positive sign. Matthew Upson is getting stronger and stronger, he is outstanding in the air and good on the ball, while that was Sol Campbell's best game yet for the club."
