Premiership: Tony Adams out for six weeks

Arsenal captain Tony Adams will be out of action for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on a stress fracture in his right foot.

Arsenal captain Tony Adams will be out of action for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on a stress fracture in his right foot.

The 35-year-old defender missed the Champions League game against Panathinaikos in Athens two weeks ago and is expected to also miss the return leg next Tuesday and the game against Real Mallorca eight days later.

He is also unlikely to make next month’s Premiership ties against Tottenham and Manchester United.

Adams hasn’t played a game for Arsenal since September 22 and has been involved in just half of the team’s games this season. However, his foot injury isn’t the only defensive worry on manager Arsene Wenger’s mind.

Goalkeeper David Seaman missed England’s international against Greece on Saturday with a shoulder injury, while Sol Campbell is doubtful for this weekend’s game because of a hamstring strain.

Lee Dixon will also be out of action for another two months following an operation on his knee.
