Leeds striker Michael Bridges has suffered a complication to his knee injury and won’t be back in the team until the New Year at the earliest.

Team manager David O’Leary had hoped the 22-year-old player would be fit to return by November after a 12-month injury nightmare but he confirmed today that Bridges "is going to be out for a long time".

The striker, who scored 21 goals for Leeds in the 1999-2000 season, initially damaged his ankle during a Champions League game against Besiktas in Istanbul last October.

Shortly afterwards, he suffered a knee injury that required surgery and hasn’t played a game for the team since then.
