Premiership: United to sell Stam to Lazio

Manchester United have agreed a fee with Lazio for Jaap Stam, according to the Dutch defender himself.

Stam told a British newspaper that United accepted the offer this weekend and are eager to push ahead with further negotiations.

Stam has reportedly angered Old Trafford officials because of his controversial autobiography, which criticises the club, the manager and his fellow players.

He has reportedly already been fined and dropped from the team as punishment for the revelations contained in the book.

Lazio are believed to have approached United officials at the Champions League draw in Monaco on Thursday.

Stam arrived in Old Trafford in 1998 for £10.75m, but he is now valued at £18m.

“I have never wanted to leave, but United have agreed a fee with Lazio and it seems both sides are eager to discuss a transfer,” the player said.

“I have no choice but to consider my options. Lazio are now free to talk to me and we will see what happens over the next few days.”
