Soccer: Houllier warns Bayern over 'friendly' tag
Gerard Houllier has told European champions Bayern Munich ahead of the Super Cup final that there is no such thing as a friendly.
The Liverpool boss jetted into the sun-kissed, super-rich principality to underline that the Anfield giants are determined to make it five trophies in just six months.
Houllier spelt out just how much Liverpool want to win the European Super Cup in Monaco's Stade Louis XI ground.
Houllier said: "This is not a friendly, it is a massive opportunity for us to play a high profile team in a prestige game.
"Don't forget this team have reached the European Cup final in 1999 and then won it this year.
"That shows the standard we are up against. But we have already won four trophies and this is another game that the players really want to win.
"You don't play friendlies at this level. At the moment we are not even thinking about Bolton on Monday, we are concentrating everything on beating Bayern Munich."
Stealing the Super Cup from under Munich's noses would appeal to Houllier's sense of achievement.
He said: "The European Super Cup means a lot to me and this club. It's a trophy and we are about winning trophies. It means a lot and I believe all my players really want to win this one, certainly.
"Bayern are a great side and if we beat them it will give our confidence a massive boost."
