Ipswich have completed their second signing in 24 hours after agreeing a fee of £4.5m for Sampdoria goalkeeper Matteo Sereni.

The British club was left without a first-team stopper following Richard Wright’s move to Arsenal during the summer.

Having spent £3.1m on Nigerian Finidi George yesterday, Ipswich beat off competition from Juventus and Fiorentina to capture 26-year-old Sereni.

The £4.5m fee equals the club record paid for Icelandic defender Hermann Heidarsson a year ago.
