PSV Eindhoven have reacted to revelations that Sir Alex Ferguson met with player Jaap Stam in secret to arrange his transfer to Manchester United.

The Dutch club today accused Ferguson of acting "against the rules and spirit of world football".

The club also revealed they have no plans to take action over Stam's claim in his forthcoming autobiography that he was the subject of an "unofficial approach" by Ferguson.

However, they have condemned the treble-winning manager for his actions.

According to PSV spokesman Pedro Salazar-Hewitt, "We never make problems for players who want to go to another club, we are prepared for that. But what you have to ask Mr Ferguson is why he has to act like this when he knows it is against the rules and the spirit of world football."
