Premiership: Giggs wants it all

Despite winning 12 major trophies in his first 10 years at Manchester United, Ryan Giggs is hungry for more.

Giggs celebrates a decade in United colours with his testimonial against Celtic in front of a full house at Old Trafford tonight.

Normally players are beginning to wind down their careers when they reach this milestone, but Giggs is adamant there is much more to come.

The winger signed a new five-year deal this summer and at 27 he feels he is just approaching his peak years.

"I love playing for the club and I want that to continue," he said. "You see a lot of players now moving about, but I have never wanted to go anywhere else really.

"We are always involved in trophies and that's what you want as a player.

"You want to win things and I have been lucky enough as a player to win things, but I want to win more."

Giggs admits the butterflies will be doing loop-the-loop in his stomach when he runs on to the pitch for his big moment.

The match has extra allure because it will mark the home debuts of summer signings Juan Veron and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

If Veron and van Nistelrooy's first appearances in England for United were not enough there is also the unofficial title of British champions at stake.

United hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg of the 'Battle of Britain' at Tom Boyd's testimonial at the end of last season.

Giggs' testimonial has re-opened the debate on whether millionaire footballers should have benefit matches.

Some feel they are an anachronism, but the 67,500 fans who will pack Old Trafford tonight would disagree.

They feel Giggs deserves a testimonial for his loyalty and service to the club.

As for Giggs, he hopes tonight will be the beginning of a great season for him and United.

"It's going to be a special year for me, starting off with my game, and I'm just looking forward to it," he said.

"Ruud and Juan are playing and it will be the fans' first chance to see them, which is good.

"I'm a little bit nervous that everything will be OK and it should be a great year."
