Premiership: Glenn Roeder West Ham’s new manager.
Glenn Roeder has vowed to prove to disillusioned West Ham fans he is the right man for the job following his surprise appointment as the club's manager.
Roeder succeeds the popular Harry Redknapp after jokingly admitting to being grateful previous targets Alan Curbishley and Steve McClaren snubbed a move to Upton Park.
But the majority of the supporters are angry with the decision made by chairman Terry Brown and managing director Paul Aldridge, as it is not the big name they were hoping for.
Roeder, however, is pleading to be given a chance and as long as he has the full support of the fans, he is confident he will be able to make West Ham a success.
"I understand the fans and I accept what they are saying," said Roeder, who was sacked by Gillingham and Watford in his previous two managerial roles.
"I've got to prove as quickly as I can I am the man for the job, and I'm sure I can change their minds and do that, particularly with good backroom staff behind me."
Roeder, who is hoping to name his lieutenants within the next fortnight, has admitted to having "a ballpark figure of around £15m " to spend on new signings to strengthen the Hammers squad this summer.
That sum is to include the £11m which the club will recoup from the sale of midfielder Frank Lampard to Chelsea, with the transfer close to being completed.
