Greece have played down reports linking them with a move for former England and Australia coach Terry Venables.

Venables was today reported to be considering taking over the Greek national team which lost 2-0 to England in a World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday.

However, Greece press officer Pano Korkodilos denied any knowledge of an approach to Venables.

Korkodilos said: "There is no official comment from the Hellenic Football Federation at the moment because I don’t know if that story is true.

"I don’t know anything about that report and if there was an approach it’s my job to know.

"If I don’t know then I should quit because I am responsible for the affairs of the national team."
