Soccer: Crozier wants to revive England v Scotland fixture

FA chief executive Adam Crozier would like to see the return of the oldest international fixture in the world, England versus Scotland.

Plans to revive internationals between the two countries have been discussed by Crozier and his SFA counterpart David Taylor.

Crozier admits the chances of resurrecting the home international tournament are slim.

But he insists there is a possibility of Scotland and England facing each other every two years.

He said: "Both sides are looking at it positively, but the congested fixture calendar is a problem.

"Personally, I'd like to see it return, and there was huge interest in the play-off between the two nations for the place in Euro 2000.

"It needed a big security operation the last time, but the crowd's behaviour was relatively good.

"There is a will to revive the fixture but it's a question of logistics. Perhaps it could be played every second year."

The plans were discussed at a meeting of Fifa's International Board in Edinburgh at the weekend.

And Taylor is in agreement with Scots-born Crozier that regular meetings of the two nations could be a possibility.

He said: "Adam's views are the same as mine, the big problem is finding dates.

"It cannot be an annual game, but the attraction of meeting England from time to time is there for all to see."
