Soccer: Celtic fans want shares, not ticket price hike

The Celtic Trust group of supporters and shareholders have urged the club's plc board to offer shares to fans instead of increasing season ticket prices.

The Parkhead club have announced an increase in season ticket prices to aid their assault on Europe next season.

But Celtic Trust secretary Peter Carr believes that a more imaginative and innovative approach should be adopted by the club.

"Last September we met with Brian Quinn, Celtic plc chairman, and put what we believe to be a unique proposal to Celtic," said Carr.

"Our idea is a very simple one which we think will be a benefit to both club and fans alike.

"Put simply, instead of just hiking prices by an average of £50, Celtic should offer the 53,000 season ticket holders the option of buying the equivalent of £50 worth of shares.

"This proposal would be a win-win for Celtic and its huge band of loyal fans.

"I think the club should reward the supporters' tremendous loyalty and, at the same time, help boost Martin O'Neill's war-chest for next season."
