Garry Monk: Leeds perfect club for my way of working
Monk, 37, sacked by Swansea in December, has signed a one-year rolling contract to become Leeds’ seventh head coach since Italian Cellino completed his takeover of the club in early 2014.
Brian McDermott, Dave Hockaday, Darko Milanic, Neil Redfearn, Uwe Rosler and Steve Evans, whose departure was confirmed on Tuesday, have all been dismissed by Cellino, but Monk appeared undaunted.
“It’s the challenge, isn’t it?” said Monk when asked why he could be the one to buck the trend.
“I have a way of working that will suit Leeds United, that will suit the players that are here and the way that the club wants to grow as well.
“I feel this is the right one for me. It’s what I’ve been waiting for and I’m ready to go.”
In other managerial news, Blackburn have appointed Owen Coyle as their new manager on a two-year deal.
The former Ireland international said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be Blackburn Rovers manager and I look forward to working with terrific people at the club.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is reportedly close to being appointed as Aston Villa’s new manager.
