Leeds’ new head coach Garry Monk is confident he can succeed where half a dozen others have failed by turning the club into Championship promotion contenders under owner Massimo Cellino.

Monk, 37, sacked by Swansea in December, has signed a one-year rolling contract to become Leeds’ seventh head coach since Italian Cellino completed his takeover of the club in early 2014.

Brian McDermott, Dave Hockaday, Darko Milanic, Neil Redfearn, Uwe Rosler and Steve Evans, whose departure was confirmed on Tuesday, have all been dismissed by Cellino, but Monk appeared undaunted.
