Sepp Blatter ploughs on with his plan for Fifa reform
Just four days after being re-elected into his post Blatter announced on Tuesday he would be standing down in the wake of bribery and corruption charges which have brought the world governing body to its knees.
However, in his announcement he pledged to stay on until a new successor was elected – not likely until December at the earliest – in order to drive “far-reaching, fundamental reforms”.
Blatter has held a meeting with Domenico Scala, independent chairman of the audit and compliance committee. “I had a good, constructive meeting with Mr Scala to establish a framework for action and a timetable. I am pleased to take advice and guidance from Mr Scala,” said Blatter in a statement.
“I want a comprehensive programme of reform and I am aware only the Fifa Congress can pass these reforms. Furthermore, the executive committee has a particular duty to share the responsibility of driving this process.”
