A young footballer who suffered brain damage when he had a cardiac arrest while playing for Tottenham Hotspur’s youth team has won his multimillion-pound High Court damages action.

Radwan Hamed, now 26, had been associated with the club since he was 11 and had signed on as a professional just three days before his collapse during a game in Belgium in August 2006.

“On any view, this was tragedy writ large,” said Mr Justice Hickinbottom in London, who was ruling today on the issue of liability.
