Cronin rescues Corinthians
All the action was packed into the final five minutes at Rockmount Park on Friday night as Rockmount and College Corinthians shared the spoils in the Beamish Stout Munster Senior League Premier Division.
In the only Premier Division game that survived the weather over the weekend, the game was devoid of much action until Rockmount substitute Aidan Fitzsimmons put his side in front five minutes from time.
Corinthians’ Kieran Kenneally and Rockmount’s Stephen Montgomery then saw red before Richie Cronin pounced two minutes from time to earn Tadgh O’Connell’s side a deserved equaliser.
Next up for Corinthians is Saturday’s eagerly-awaited FAI Intermediate Cup fourth-round tie with competition specialists Avondale United at Avondale Park (2pm).
In the First Division, Blarney United opened up an eight-point gap at the top after defeating Fermoy 4-3 in a cracker at O’Shea Park on Saturday.
In the other two First Division games played, Mayfield United got the better of Ballincollig by the odd goal in five at Mayfield Park, while Leeds thrashed Wilton United 4-0 at Leeds Park.
In the Second Division, Cobh Wanderers warmed up for Sunday’s Intermediate Cup trip to face the might of Crumlin United with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Crosshaven in Cobh.
Crosshaven put up a good fight but second-half goals from former Cork City and Cobh Ramblers player Davin O’Neill and Shane Hallahan saw the table-toppers stay four points ahead of Passage United, who defeated Leeside 5-3 in Little Island in the other Second Division match played.
