Tony Pulis set to keep faith in Saido Berahino

West Brom head coach Tony Pulis is prepared to unleash Saido Berahino at Everton but insisted the Baggies are not a one-man team.

The striker is available for tonight’s trip to Goodison Park following his 12-month driving ban after he pleaded guilty to drink-driving on Friday.

And Pulis has no problem with the 21-year-old playing, but insisted Albion will not rely on him against the Toffees.

He said: “He will be in the squad. I will have a chat with him if I feel it is necessary and if it’s not necessary I will leave it.

“We have got other players who can score goals, other players who hopefully, if given the opportunity if we don’t play Saido, will step in and put a shift in.

“It isn’t a one-man team.”

The Baggies are a point behind 13th placed Everton but just two points above the drop zone.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes the core value of Pulis, newly installed at The Hawthorns, is to make his sides difficult to beat. Martinez does not expect the Welshman to alter his approach significantly.

“Tony has terrific experience and has been successful in many different environments already,” he said ahead of their meeting at Goodison Park tonight.

“I have always admired what Tony has achieved in his career.

“I remember when he was at Gillingham and the biggest strength he had as a manager was he always found a way to get a competitive team with the players he had.

“What he achieved last season with Palace didn’t go unnoticed and what he achieved in the long term at Stoke was quite exceptional.

“I am sure he has been very flexible over the years and depending on the players he works with he is going to find a new formula. He will create a team who know how to compete on the day against whoever they play.”
