Rooney will need injection to play

Wayne Rooney will require a pain-killing injection in his toe in order to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena tonight.

Rooney sustained the injury in the first leg against Bundesliga champions and tournament favourites Bayern, which United drew 1-1 at Old Trafford last Tuesday, and the England striker missed Saturday’s 4-0 win at Newcastle as a result of the problem.

His availability was unclear when United arrived in Germany yesterday but he revealed on Facebook that he had been involved in the team’s final training session before their quarter-final second leg.
