Bayern Munich were plunged into crisis yesterday – but all of their issues are confined to events off the pitch.

Bayern chief admits to €18.5m tax evasion

Yesterday morning club President Uli Hoeness was in a Munich court accused of evading €3.5m in taxes. His response was to state the true figure was actually €18.5m, causing jaws to plunge to the floor all over Bavaria.

“I’m glad this is all out in the open now,’ said Hoeness, who could face between five and ten years in prison if found guilty, and attempted to avoid such a sentence by voluntarily paying €10m to the authorities in January 2013.
