Keogh frustrated by manner of axe
The Millwall striker, who scored a late equaliser at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday, was not named in Trapattoni’s 29-man squad and felt he deserved to be told the news in person.
Keogh tweeted: “Not even in the provisional squad, gutted, oh well might get called in last minute! #noloyalty”.
He returned to Twitter again to clarify it was not a whinge.
“Not moaning bout bein left out jus gutted, lot of quality in the squad, maybe after Oman and NY a txt or phone call wud of been courteous !!”
Meanwhile, Wigan’s tough stance over Republic of Ireland international midfielder James McCarthy is scaring off clubs. Wigan value McCarthy at around €24m and that is putting off prospective bidders.
McCarthy had looked certain to leave Wigan this summer after the FA Cup holders were relegated, but with the transfer window closing next Monday, the signs are that he could now be staying at the DW Stadium.
Latics boss Owen Coyle said: “There’s always time for things to change, but as we sit just now we’ve still not received any phone calls, any enquiries, any offers for any of our players.
“If anybody was thinking about changing that, they had better be respectful to Wigan Athletic because we don’t have to sell anybody and that would be reflected if anybody did come looking.
“There is no cut-off point. We can’t say that, for example, August 29 is our cut-off point. Football just doesn’t work like that.”
