Suarez would consider Madrid to escape critics

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has admitted he would find it hard to turn down a move to Real Madrid.

Suarez revealed in an interview with Uruguayan radio the fierce criticism he has faced from the English media may force him to continue his career elsewhere.

The 26-year-old has courted controversy since his arrival from Ajax, facing repeated accusations of diving, and serving a ban for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and another for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.

“I’ve worked hard since childhood to get where I am and I keep getting constant criticism from the English press. It makes me tired. Liverpool want me to stay, but do not know what will happen,” he said.

Although he admitted no official approach has been made by Madrid, he added: “It would be difficult to say ‘no’ to Real Madrid.”

The Reds meanwhile are set to continue their post-season transfer spending with the signing of Spanish striker Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo.

A fee of €9m for the Spaniard is believed to have been agreed.

Meanwhile, Thomas Vermaelen has distanced himself from reports suggesting he could leave Arsenal during the summer.

He insisted: “I’m happy at Arsenal. I didn’t play much and that was frustrating, but things can turn around quickly,” he said.

Elsewhere, Stoke are thought to be moving closer to the appointment of Mark Hughes as Tony Pulis’s replacement.

Another man on the move is Roberto Martinez. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright intends to speak to the Wigan boss in the “next 48 hours” over the Goodison Park vacancy.
