Barton and Hamann’s twitter spat

Controversy just seems to linger around Joey Barton and last night the former Newcastle and QPR midfielder became embroiled in a more extended exchange than usual — this time with former German international Didi Hamann, and again, on Twitter.

Though it’s not quite clear what sparked the volleying of abuse it seems to have been in relation to Hamann having a go at Barton over his criticism of his former clubs following updates about the future of Marseille player Loic Remy, with both QPR and Newcastle chasing his signature.

The row escalated quickly with both firing personal comments at each other.

Having vowed early on in the exchange not to get personal, Hamann couldn’t resist when he tweeted, ‘lets see each other in 5 years I hope I don't have to go to Walton #prison’ to which Barton responded ‘you'll probably need a loan for your bus fare there! #skabint’
