The Italian has transformed the club since succeeding Andre Villas-Boas on a temporary basis in March and was rewarded with the first European Cup in the club’s 107-year history.
The players left no doubt that Di Matteo should take the lion’s share of the credit after rescuing a season that appeared destined for disaster and instead turning it into the greatest in the club’s history.
