The Republic of Ireland’s training camp in Montecatini will go ahead as scheduled despite the earthquake in Northern Italy which killed at least six people, injured several others and caused significant damage.

According to the FAI, there was no impact in Montecatini from the quake, which had its epicentre near Modena, just over 50 miles away. Confirming Ireland would be going ahead with their plans to train in Tuscany, manager GiovanniTrapattoni said yesterday thatMontecatini was protected from the effects of the tremors by a mountain range.

The Irish squad fly to Pisa on Sunday before transferring toMontecatini to begin their weekof training in Italy ahead of theEuropean Championship finals.
