Ring replaces O’Brien as Cork City chair

Cork City last night announced Jonathan O’Brien has stepped down from his position as club chairman to be replaced by Michael Ring.

Ring replaces O’Brien as Cork City chair

O’Brien, a Sinn Féin TD for Cork North Central, sighted commitments in his working life as the key factor in his decision to step aside.

“I am proud to have been involved with FORAS since the very beginning and I will remain involved both on match night and as a source of support for the board,” he told the club website.

“Additional responsibilities in my own working life means I no longer have the requisite time demanded by the position and the board. However, I am confident I am leaving the club in capable hands.”

Ring was elected O’Brien’s successor after a meeting of the board of management last night with Paul Hartnett remaining on as vice-chairman.

“It is a tremendous honour for me to take up this position, especially given that my own father was a founding member of the club in 1984,’’ Ring said.
