Tevez offers City ‘sincere’ apology
The Argentinian has also withdrawn his appeal against City’s fine of six weeks’ wages for gross misconduct, which was due to be heard by the Premier League in the coming days.
The news came in a statement released by City last night — which suggests he could return to the club’s first team squad in the very near future.
Tevez sparked a dispute with the club when he refused to warm up during the Champions League loss at Bayern Munich in September and then spent more than three months in Argentina without permission.
The 28-year-old reported back to the club last week after failing to secure a move during the January window and says he now wants to fight for a place in the team.
Manager Roberto Mancini had long maintained he would only consider Tevez for selection again after an apology. In a statement released by City last night, Tevez said:
“I wish to apologise sincerely and unreservedly to everybody I have let down and to whom my actions over the last few months have caused offence.
“My wish is to concentrate on playing football for Manchester City Football Club.”
The former Manchester United and West Ham player is ineligible to play in tonight’s Europa League tie against Porto having not been registered for the competition.
But the Premier League leaders have back-to-back home games against Blackburn and Bolton on February 25 and March 3.
